Equalities and the LSC Provider base

The project's objective is to support London East LSC providers to integrate equality and diversity into all aspects of their work.

The project will identify baseline provider information on equalities and diversity with a view to produce realistic and implementable individual action plans. This project supports the LSC's provider review process.

PATH National is working in partnership with Zahno Rao Associates to identify baseline provider information on equalities and diversity. The project will aim to produce realistic and implementable individual provider action plans.

Working in the South East

PATH National has secured funding to work with key agencies in the South East region under Objective 3, Policy Field 2, Measure 2.

The project will help to improve chances of employment and remove barriers to entering the labour market for those groups disadvantaged in the labour market, specifically BME groups.

The project has a particular focus on supporting the needs of individuals from black African and Caribbean and Bangladeshi and Pakistani communities.

Over 7% of the nation's BME communities live in the South East of England and there are significant sub-regional BME populations in target areas such as Portsmouth, Reading, Slough, Southampton and Oxfordshire, (2.5%, 9.7%, 27.1%, 5.0% and 3.3% respectively).

2.8% of the South East's working age population is from BME background, which accounts for 174,000 people of working age. Nevertheless, unemployment amongst minority ethnic groups remains high.

The project will train 20 individuals from the target group for jobs with good career prospects in one of a range of occupations, including Professional, Management, and HR and Finance skills in the housing and associated sectors.

In addition the project will work with employers on a holistic employment basis to address issues relating to under-representation in their work force. Key aspects of this work will include:

  • Reviewing current recruitment practices
  • Developing equal opportunities policies and strategies
  • Developing case studies and best practice guidelines.

In this way the project aims to have a longer term and strategic impact by addressing the structural problems underlying exclusion from the labour market.
